RIVR, a Zurich based robotics company, is about to change package delivery with a system that pairs autonomous vehicles with AI-driven delivery robots to cover the entire last-mile journey – from warehouse to your front door.
The RIVR system starts with an autonomous vehicle, which is basically a rolling warehouse, carrying multiple orders at once. They come equipped with advanced sensors, cameras and artificial intelligence to navigate traffic, avoid hazards as well as find the most efficient route possible. In their latest test, RIVR showed one such vehicle loaded with packages driving through urban environments.

Once parked, RIVR’s delivery robots take over for the remaining leg. During the test, they navigated pathways, dodged crowds and even ascended a flight of stairs to deliver packages. This ability to handle the “last 100 yards” sets RIVR apart by going all the way to your door.

RIVR’s robots adapt to new situations by combining real-world data and simulations to hone their ability to navigate complex terrains. Just this past May, RIVR tested this technology in Austin, Texas, in partnership with Veho, a local delivery platform. One robot, overseen by a human for safety, completed many deliveries over 5-6 hours.
